then, now & here
The exhibition "RENAISSANCE then, now & here" at Schallaburg Castle in 2024 promises a fascinating journey into the world of the Renaissance. Immerse yourself in a time of extraordinary cultural prosperity, explore previously closed rooms of Schallaburg Castle and let yourself be carried away by the spirit of optimism of the Renaissance. Through thorough research and carefully selected objects, the exhibition offers a modern and sophisticated view of an era that still fascinates today!
Construction progress in the 16th century
Come on in!- Christoph von Losenstein began remodelling the medieval castle around 1540. Modelled on the imperial residence in Vienna, he had a hall built opposite the residential castle.
- Hans Wilhelm von Losenstein continued his father's building work and initially focussed on the design of the courtyards. The arcaded courtyards were built between 1570 and 1580.
- After the Renaissance-style palace was completed, the garden was designed. The cryptoporticus at the end of the garden invites visitors to typical garden parties, while the ballroom and shooting range are used for physical exercise.
- At the same time, Hans Wilhelm von Losenstein constructs further buildings for the castle grounds. The Gerichtsstöckl & Jägerstöckl and the Neuschloss were presumably planned especially as utility rooms.
